Thing #7

Instead of creating my own Flickr account, I decided to look through what all the site has to offer.  Searching images online has become a popular way for people to become inspired to create their own art works.  This is true for students as well.  Often times when students can not figure out what something would look like or how to relate an subject matter to their work, they'll do an online search.  Even during my observations if the teacher can not describe something in a way that the student understands, they are able to do a quick online search.
I searched Día de los Muertos; the Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1-2.  It's commonly called the "Day of the Dead".  It is a holiday during which people remember and celebrate family and friends who have died.  This is a great topic to do around the fall season when home room teachers might be doing things related to Halloween.  With this subject matter, the art teacher can share traditions and cultures with the students in a way that isn't directly related to Halloween itself.
Finding images that related the best to the holiday did not take too long, and I was shocked not to come across anything inappropriate during my search.
